What do you love about the neighborhood?:We love the private setting we have in our development. You will see wildlife on a daily basis-swans, eagles, deer, fox, etc...It is very peaceful sitting by the river watching the birds fly and fish jump. The family has enjoyed many nights fishing for huge catfish on our shoreline. We have wonderful neighbors, that also good friends. They are always willing to watch the house when we leave for a vacation. Just down the road is the Bridge View Park, we enjoy walking the dogs through the park.

The Northstar train line is about a 3 mile drive from our house. It is very convenient to take to work downtown, or to catch a Twins or Vikings game

What are some great things about your city?:Monticello has a small town feel, but with way more shopping. There are many great parks in the area. We enjoy taking the dogs and kids to Montissippi Park. They have miles of paved trails, great setting for pictures and picnics. They also have a boat landing so you can dock your boat, or drop your tubes for tubing down the river. And, a good 10 mile run is from our house to the park and back.

The second weekend in July Monticello hosts Riverfest. There is a fabulous parade, arts in park, food vendors, talent competition , street dance and duck races down the river to win great prizes.

In August, the Lions host Brew Fest at the West Bridge Park. Our house is within walking distance to that park, so no need to worry about driving. :)

What restaurants are nearby?: A great restaurant for breakfast, homemade soups and and pies is the Cornerstone Cafe on Broadway. The VFW is also a fun place to meet friends and they are known for their broasted chicken. Russell's on the Lake in Big Lake has a big scenic patio and on the weekends they have live music. They are known for their prime rib and good dessert drinks. Two scratch kitchens opened up about 10 minutes away in Elk River-Chow Restaurant and the Tipsy Chicken-both have excellent food.

When my parents come to visit they enjoy playing Bingo at Chatters and Beef O'Bradys.

We will also have a brewery opening up at the end of April-Rustech Brewing right off of Hwy 25.

Lupulin Brewery is down the road in Big Lake. They have some award winning beers.

What grocery stores or nearby shopping is there?:My daughter and I enjoy shopping at Marshalls and Target. You can't beat the good prices at Aldi. Von Hanson's is our local butcher who have great meats for grilling. The best part of the location is that the Albertville Outlet Mall is less than 10 minutes away from our house. Maple Grove is a 20 minute drive for Trader Joe's and Whole Foods.

Information about the schools in our area: Even though our address is Big Lake, we are zoned for Monticello school district. Our kids started at Monticello in kindergarten, and are now both in high school. We have all positive things to say about this district. Both of them are active in high school sports and have played in local club sports. Swan River and Jane Goodall Academy are the two local charter schools. Swan River has a very good preschool program attached to their charter school. Our son attended the preschool at Swan River and was reading before kindergarten.

What do you do for interests and hobbies near the property?:We enjoy playing golf at many of the local golf courses in the area. We enjoy fishing on the river and local lakes.

There is a lot of public land minutes away for hunting or hiking.

There is a dog park in Monticello that offers a fenced area for the dogs to roam.

The kids enjoy going to Bertram Park for watching soccer games, swimming and fishing.

And, if you are a runner, you can run in the city or out in the country. If you are a long distance runner, you can do both!

Tell us about any additional property highlights, upgrades, recent updates that have been done: Our home is equipment with in floor heat in the basement and garage delivered through a single natural gas boiler that also heats the rest of the home. We used core bond insulation throughout the home. All windows in the home are Anderson Windows. The shop is fully insulated with dual heat sources. The yard has been professionally landscaped and has an in ground zoned sprinkler system. The well has an an upgraded 3/4 hp pump.

Key points about the house that we were drawn to when we first looked at the home:It was a beautiful lot located on the river. It gave a county feel with a convenient location. We liked having all the mature trees on the property which gave us privacy, but we still had great neighbors close by. The backyard is a great place to have a bonfire while listening to the river flow in the summer.
